About the project
Why this archive exists.
Global Case Archive began with a simple frustration: understanding one case often means piecing together scattered articles, police releases, court updates, and videos. I wanted to make that work easier by bringing the essential details and source material for each case into one place. The archive also makes it easier to discover related cases when readers want to explore a subject further. The wider goal is to build a thoughtful community where people interested in true crime can learn from and discuss the same well-sourced record.
This is an independent research and web-development project. It is not affiliated with a police service, court, news organization, or victims’ group.
Every case is briefly summarized, then presented with a timeline, relevant videos, cited sources, and related cases.
What guides the work
Three things I try to get right.
- 01
Context over spectacle
Graphic detail and dramatic language do not make a record more informative. The focus stays on events that help explain the case.
- 02
Uncertainty stays visible
An allegation is not a conviction, and an official theory is not automatically a proven fact. The wording should make those differences clear.
- 03
Sources stay close
Readers should be able to open the material behind a summary instead of having to take the archive’s word for it.
What “reviewed” means
A date, not a guarantee.
The reviewed date marks the last time the case summary and its citations were checked against the available record. Cases can change, sources can be corrected, and new information can emerge afterward.
If something looks wrong or out of date, point to the statement and share a reliable source. Confirmed changes are added to the record.
